Lorne P-12 College Music Program
Lorne P-12 College has a rich history in music education. Over the years students have pursued careers in the music industry beyond their studies and achieved great success by performing at all scale venues and festivals across Victoria, interstate and overseas. The College has had students find careers in music education, artist management, sound design, audio engineering, music marketing and publicity.
Students have studied at higher education institutes such as Victoria University, Victorian College of the Arts, Australia College of the Arts (COLLARTS) and Oxygen College.
Lorne P-12 offers a wide range of learning options, music genres and instrumentation for students to discover. From classroom music in P-10, the School Bands Program, VCE-VET Music in years 11 and 12, and private/group lessons via our Instrumental Music Program.
The College prides itself on the dedication and active involvement of our music staff in the Australian music industry. Our students benefit from the experience that our music staff bring from their engagement in the contemporary arts industry, by providing the best and up-to-date knowledge, tour and festival performance experiences and supportive learning environments for our students.
Meet our music department!
John Waller is the Head of Music and classroom teacher at Lorne P12 College. He has worked as a professional musician for over 18 years and is actively involved in the independent music scene as a songwriter, guitarist and composer.
He has performed with international touring artists, at festivals and to sold-out crowds in Australia and overseas. He is passionate about creating a culture of music and creates real life opportunities for students to play gigs. He is dedicated to building young people’s capacity to experiment, play, write, record, perform and engage with music through the Lorne P12 College music program.
Leah (Piano)
Having recently moved to the south coast, renowned songwriter and educator Leah Senior will be joining P-12 as our new piano teacher.
After graduating from a Bachelor of Music Performance, Leah has spent the past decade performing her music, teaching and facilitating songwriting workshops. She has released three albums and toured nationally and internationally, playing festivals including Queenscliff Music Festival, Golden Plains and Port Fairy Folk Festival. She has been nominated for the Australian Music Prize and The Age Music Victoria awards multiple times.
Leah has spent the past 5-6 years sharing her passion for music with her students at Coburg High School. Previous to this, Leah taught at various primary schools, worked as a songwriting facilitator for organisation Wild At Heart and a guest lecturer at Melbourne Polytechnic.
Leah enjoys playing a variety of genres and loves fostering curiosity and creativity in her students.
Immanuel Dreessens-Owusu – Drums
From the age of 11 Immy has drummed in various bands throughout Geelong and the Surf Coast including Icky Sticks, Children Of the Sun, The Larson Effect and Finalfinal. He has played at a wide variety of events around the country including Woodford, Port Fairy, Dark Mofo, Darwin, Mullum, and Queenscliff Music Festivals.
He is best known for his work drumming with indigenous artist Yirrmal and performing with his own solo project under the name “Immy Owusu.”Immy is a multi-instrumentalist music maker who comes from a great line of professional performers and teachers.
At the age of 3 he directed his first African Drumming workshop at the Warrnambool Fun 4 Kids Festival. As an adolescent he spent a great deal of time in his father’s homeland Ghana learning traditional and contemporary drumming. He is currently working on his debut album with Hopestreet Recordings.
Roger Turner – Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele.
Roger has run his own business as a private music tutor since 2003. He completed a Advanced Diploma in Music Performance at University of Ballarat and has worked for 11 years in music shops including Allans Music, Billy Hyde and Guitar Paradise. Roger runs his own recording studio and has worked as a consultant for studio builds, recordings and live sound performances.
Roger has been playing and writing original music in bands/duos and solo since the early 2000’s. He is currently playing in a 10-piece funk band as well as his solo electronic music project called “Dao Kapow” where he creates live dance music with synths and drum machines.
Indianna Wylie – Vocal Teacher
Indy has been involved in the music industry since she was 11 and performed in Geelong based all girl soul group ‘The Sweethearts’ for 8 years. Through her time in the band, she gained experience and confidence singing at gigs, private functions and music festivals.
Highlights included performing at Queenscliff Music Festival, Porretta Soul Festival in Italy, and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Indy started her own private singing lesson business in 2022, she received a Certificate IV in ‘Music Industry’, completed VCE Music Performance and Music Investigation studies and is currently studying a Bachelor of Music at Victoria University.
Indy has a well-rounded understanding of all types of music, as she has performed in different bands ranging in genre, age bracket and gender. Indy’s biggest passion is sharing a love for singing and performing as well as growing confidence in the students that she mentors and teaches.
