Simon Umbers Tours Sri Lanka

During the holidays Year 10 student Simon Umbers had the wonderful experience of travelling to Sri Lanka, as a member of a Geelong representative Under 15 cricket team.

Simon was appointed Captain of the squad, a huge honour. He led thirteen young cricketers, playing six games against Sri Lankan student teams in major centres across Sri Lanka, including Colombo, Kandy and Galle.

The team won four of their six games and Simon was the leading run scorer within the team. In addition to captaining the team on the ground Simon also had the responsibility of talking in front of a variety of audiences and promoting relationships between the teams.

They also played a ‘friendly’ game against the ‘foundation of goodness’, a Sri Lankan organisation who help young students in poverty and the team had the opportunity to visit a local orphanage.

Congratulations to Simon for this achievement and we wish him well in his future cricketing career.
