Sports Report Week 10

5/6 Basketball Day

On Wednesday 28th August, Lorne Year 5/6 students joined together with Apollo Bay to play off in a fun basketball round robin at Lorne.

Students played off in team of 5 and had 3 hours of constant games with the emphasis being on participation and fun whilst getting a chance to improve their basketball skills. Many of the games were very close matches so it was great to see all of our students getting involved and getting to know the Apollo students. Thanks to Fraser and Louis from Year 10 who helped us with umpiring for the games.

7-10 Basketball

Selected students from Year 7- 10 participated in the Coastal Basketball competition with Apollo Bay on Thursday 29th August in what were very tightly contested games and evenly matched teams. Our Year 7/8 students travelled to Apollo Bay with Simon Scholtes to play off against Apollo Bay and Lavers Hill whilst our Year 9/10 students competed against Apollo Bay at Lorne. It was an action packed day of basketball for both groups and all of our teams had some very close games and lots of basketball time, which was fantastic. Once again, an wonderful opportunity for our students to work with the Apollo Bay and Lavers students in a fun and inclusive environment.

A big thanks to Steve Donne who returned to the Lorne campus to assist with the umpiring for the day as his knowledge and coaching experience in basketball is very extensive and valued by all of the students involved!

Ausinterschools Snowsports

After the teams fantastic success at the Vicinterschools Snowsports championships, we had 7 students represent Lorne P-12 College at the National Snowsports championships held at Mt Buller on Thursday 5th – Saturday 7th September.

This competition has schools from all over Australia travel to Mt Buller to compete and the level of competition is very high in all disciplines.

Once again we had some outstanding results:

Sunny Lane became Australian champion placing first in the Giant Slalom Snowboard event – our first ever individual medal at the National Snowsports championships which is an amazing achievement!

And our Snowboard A Team – Sunny, Levi and Dusty placed 2nd in the Teams competition in both the Boardercross and Giant Slalom events in a very strong field of teams from all over Australia – well done!
