Otway Cluster Athletics

On Wednesday 20th March, students from Lorne, Apollo Bay and Lavers Hill P-12 Colleges joined together at Apollo Bay campus for the Otway Cluster Athletics event ,which is the second level of our Athletics sports. We had an amazing turnout of over 60 students from Lorne alone along with 7 staff who travelled to down to Apollo Bay on the bus. It was not the best weather for the day but the students battled through the drizzle and the otway fog to demonstrate some fantastic athletic performances in all events.

Congratulations to all students who competed for Lorne and our age group champions and runners up but unfortunately we were not victorious in the end with Apollo Bay coming up on top with the most points.

Year 5/6 Colac Division Tennis Competition

Congratulations to Max Gordon and Jack Lynch in Year 5 who were selected to represent the College at the Year 5/6 Colac Division Tennis Tournament held at the Colac Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday 7th March. Max and Jack equipped themselves exceptionally well and represented the school with a great deal of enthusiasm and pride. The round robin format included four groups and each group played five singles matches. The students were expected to score and umpire their own matches under adult supervision.

Max – At the conclusion of the main draw Max won a match! A fantastic achievement given he doesn’t play competitively. Look out next year if he has a few lessons! A quote from Max, “It was great fun although I was a bit nervous before I played”. A great example of persistence and never giving up. Well done Max!

Jack – Won 4 out of 5 matches and qualified for the finals. He played two finals and was very close in his second match narrowly losing by one game! A great effort Jack!

The results were even more impressive given Max and Jack were the only year five boys. They have already set their sights on returning next year as year sixes. Well done Max and Jack!

Rita won the three disciplines of dressage, show jumping and cross country and in winning all three events she was awarded the blue rug. This is rarely achieved and deserves huge congratulations. Well done Rita.
