Welcome to the website of Lorne P-12 College. As you read through this information, we hope you gain a feel for the vibrancy and friendliness of our learning community and see what makes our school so successful. Our collective focus is to ensure we provide every student at Lorne P-12 College with an education to succeed in a complex changing world.
At Lorne, learning starts in our prep classrooms through flexible and creative programs. The core literacy and numeracy skills are developed through a balance of direct instruction and inquiry learning in the primary years. In the middle years a combination of instruction and student centred learning is used to broaden analytical thinking and problem solving. The VCE program in the senior years, coupled with a range of subject choices available, ensures there are programs to suit all students’ interests and abilities. This includes our VET/VCAL pathways, including school-based apprenticeships and vocational training.
Our college enjoys a reputation for academic success and providing options for multiple senior pathways. This success and open-mindedness stems from a supportive and inclusive school culture. Lorne’s teaching practices are informed by research in best practice teaching and learning for students from the early years of school through to our graduating Year 12 students. It’s a friendly, safe and energetic learning community where students explore a well-rounded education across a wide range of areas: academic, sporting, artistic, musical and social/emotional – creating confident, articulate and resilient young people who can thrive in an ever changing, global world.
Our students are engaged in a challenging learning environment that focuses on the growth of the whole child. Strong values and beliefs underpin all that we do with regard to relationships, and respect for ourselves and others. It is our shared purpose to promote knowledgeable, responsible, happy, resilient and socially adept students who exhibit the qualities of successful learners. Our commitment to the learning growth and continual improvement of all our students means we set high expectations for one another and keep the development of every student under the spotlight. Lorne students develop an appreciation of the world around them. We encourage students to be inquisitive, value diversity, have a sense of personal responsibility and a commitment to social justice as well as to see learning as an ongoing adventure.
We are a school that prides itself on its history and strong traditions that have prevailed for decades. Since opening in 1879 we have developed a strong and inclusive community in which our parents and caregivers are valued as partners in the education of their children. There are many opportunities for families to become involved in the school.
I am very proud to be the Principal of Lorne P-12 College. I invite you to tour our school, discuss your child’s strengths and needs, and see first-hand what we have to offer. Should you decide to join our community you will be empowering your child to experience the high level of success and enjoyment associated with being a Lorne P-12 College student.
Kind regards,
Carly Stafford
